Short bio

Fabio Scotti is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy. He received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering in 2003 from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He was the Director of the Biometric Systems Laboratory of the Department of Computer Science, Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, and he is currently the Deputy Director of the Industrial, Environmental and Biometric Informatics Laboratory at the Department of Computer Science, Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy.

His research interests include biometric systems, contactless biometrics, multimodal biometric systems, biometric encryption and privacy-compliant biometric templates, signal and image processing, high-level system design, computational intelligence algorithms and related technologies for industrial applications, theoretical, architectural, and application aspects of artificial neural networks. He has published more than 180 papers in international journals, books and conference proceedings.

He is serving as Senior Area Editor of the IEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing (09/2025 - present). He served as Associate Editor of the IEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing (01/2020 - 08/2025), IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems (04/2015 - 09/2025), Springer "Soft Computing" (2013-2020), IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (2010-2013). He served as Book Editor (Area Editor, section Less-constrained Biometrics) of the Encyclopedia of Cryptography and Security (3rd Edition), Springer (12/2019 - 01/2025). He served as guest co-editor for the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement (Special Section on Computational Intelligence for Measurement Systems and Applications, and the Special Issue on Biometric Instrumentation and Measurement). He was Program Chair for the IEEE Biometric Measurements and Systems for Security and Medical Applications (2011) and General co-chair of the IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence for Measurement Systems and Applications (2011). He has served as Program co-Chair for the IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Biometrics and Identity Management (2014), the IEEE Workshop on Biometric Measurements and Systems for Security and Medical Applications (2014, 2013, 2012), the IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Virtual Environments for Measurement Systems and Applications (2014, 2013, 2010), IEEE Workshop on Computational Intelligence in Biometrics and Identity Management (2011), the IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence for Measurement Systems and Applications (2012, 2010, 2008, 2006), and for the IEEE Workshop on Computational Intelligence in Biometrics: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications (2009). He has served as a reviewer for several leading international journals in the areas of biometrics, signal and image processing, computer vision, machine learning, and information security. He has also served on the program committees of various conferences. He is IEEE Senior Member.
