Assurance-aware 5G Edge-Cloud Architectures for Intensive Data Analytics

Abstract

Modern data-intensive applications are increasingly demanding in terms of non-functional properties such as performance, latency, security, and privacy. Berto’s research work presents a novel assurance methodology for verifying and assessing non-functional properties of modern data-intensive applications that are composed of services and deployed in a heterogeneous continuum infrastructure that spans from Edge to Cloud. The thesis also proposes an advanced continuum infrastructure that integrates 5G MEC and Big Data services, and applies the assurance methodology to a real-world IoT-based automated agronomy application. The thesis demonstrates the utility, usability, and performance of the assurance approach in the context of modern continuum infrastructures.
