Giovanni Pighizzini

Professor
Giovanni Pighizzini received a MS degree in Computer Science in 1987 and a PhD in Computer Science in 1993 from the University of Milano. He has been an assistant professor since 1992, an associate professor since 1998, and a full professor since 2001.
From 2003 to 2007 and from 2019 to 2022 he was the head of the Academic Board for studying programs in Computer Science and Technology at the University of Milan.
Since December 2022 he is the dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
His main research interests are formal language and automata theory, descriptional complexity, computational complexity and algorithms.

Editor of the Formal Language Theory Column of the Bulletin of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS).
Past-Chair (2011-2017) of the IFIP Working Group 1.02 on Descriptional Complexity.
Past-Chair (2006-2017) of the Steering Committee of the International Conference on Descriptional Complexity of Formal Systems (DCFS).
Since 2020, chair of the Steering Committee of the international conference Developments in Language Theory (DLT).
